Manchester United fans have been reacting with glee over the potential signing of Real Madrid’s Casemiro, particularly for the damage he’s done against Liverpool.

The midfielder is the subject of a shock £60million move to Old Trafford, leaving Spain with five Champions League winners medals in tow.

United have been plunged back into chaos mode with opening Premier League losses against Brighton and Brentford, but could potentially unveil Casemiro ahead of their next match against Liverpool.

After being hammered 4-0 away at Brentford last time out, there were some fears things could get even worse against their fierce rivals from Merseyside, but their latest signing may be able to offer some advice.

Not only are Liverpool also reeling from a winless start to the season, but the sight of Casemiro may send shivers down their spines at Old Trafford, with the 30-year-old unbeaten in four matches against the Reds.

The defensive midfielder has won three out of four clashes against Liverpool, two of them being Champions League finals, which will come as music to the ears of the City of Manchester.

Aside from beating Jurgen Klopp’s side in the 2018 and 2022 finals, though, one moment has stood out to the United faithful, which came in his only draw, in the 2020/21 quarter finals.

Madrid had already beaten Liverpool 3-1 in the first leg in Spain, with a 0-0 at Anfield more than enough to secure progression to the final four, but one moment in particular will have left United fans drooling.

Liverpool’s captain on the night, James Milner, had put an early brutal challenge on his opposite number wearing the armband, Karim Benzema.

The veteran’s studs ended up right in the Frenchman’s ankle with him very unlucky to avoid an injury, however, Casemiro wasn’t finished.

Moments later in the 24th minute with Benzema hobbling, Milner gained possession right in front of Jurgen Klopp and in came the Brazilian to wipe him out, leaving him tumbling through the technical area.

A melee was sparked as Klopp and the fourth official had to come between Andy Robertson and Casemiro, while Roberto Firmino was held back from his Brazil teammate by compatriot Eder Militao.

The no.14 was barely flustered though, aiming a raise of the eyebrows at Milner as the two midfielders cracked on.

talkSPORT sources understand that United hope to finalise a deal for Casemiro in the coming days, and could unveil him as a morale boost against the Reds on Monday.

And even if he doesn’t qualify to play in time, Erik ten Hag may be well advised to let Casemiro take the pre-match team talk in order to get the blood pumping.
