For a significant period of time, the 25-year-old looked like he was on his to Tottenham until Liverpool swopped in and secured his signature.

Diaz joined the club in the closing stages of the January transfer window for £45million.

Given that he has been on Merseyside since Friday, and training with the club, there is a small possibility that Diaz could make his debut on Sunday against Cardiff City in the fourth round of the FA Cup, live on talkSPORT.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Klopp teased Liverpool fans by saying that it is not too soon for him to make his first outing at Anfield.

“Far too soon [for him to make his debut], I don’t know,” the German said.

“If he would have been here yesterday [Thursday] and could have trained a little bit, I would have considered it definitely. Now, I don’t know.

“Give me a second to meet him and ask him how his last two or three days were, because it’s not easy to sit around in Paris waiting for the papers and stuff like this.

“It’s not the best time of your life, it doesn’t help you with recovery from an intense period he had as well with two games for Colombia, massive travel, all these kind of things. So, let’s have a look.

“I wouldn’t say no because I would be excited as well. A few minutes in a sold-out Anfield is nice. But let’s see.”

In an exclusive first interview with the club, Diaz was understandably very happy to have joined, and could not wait to get started.

“First of all, thanks very much for the welcome,” he said.

He took part in some individual training sessions on Friday

“I’m very happy and pleased to be here at this great team and this great club.

“I’ve not been here for very long but in the short time I’ve had with my new teammates, I’ve shared a few words with some great players and real references at the club.

“I’m very proud to be meeting up with them, and to now have the chance to play alongside them as a teammate and share a dressing room with them is a great source of pride for me.

“I’m really happy and content to be here.”
